Terms of service
Plain terms for a small service: you buy credits, you spend them on tools, and we run those tools honestly. Nothing below is a surprise.
1. Who you are contracting with
These terms are between you and DoAThingPlease.com (“we”). By creating an account you accept them. Contact: support@doathingplease.com.
2. What the service is
A catalogue of small HTTP tools — text, images, documents, audio, data lookups — runnable from this site or called as an API. Each tool costs a stated number of credits per successful call. We may add, change or retire individual tools; if we retire one you have been using, we will say so on its page.
3. Your account
One account per person or organisation. Keep your password and API keys to yourself: an API key is bearer credential, so anything done with it is treated as done by you. You can create and revoke keys at any time from your account page. Tell us promptly if you think a key has leaked, and revoke it — revocation is immediate.
New accounts receive 20 credits once, when the email address is confirmed. It is a trial allowance, has no cash value, and is not refundable or transferable.
4. Credits, prices and payment
- Credits are prepaid in packs, starting at £5 for 100 credits. Prices include VAT — the price shown is the price you pay.
- Credits do not expire while your account is open. They are not money, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Payment is taken by Stripe, who are the merchant of record for your purchase. Their terms cover the payment itself.
- A call that fails validation still costs its credits. The charge happens when a request is authorised, before the tool sees your input, so a malformed request is charged. A request rejected for bad credentials is free. We document this on Pricing because it surprises people, and we would rather it surprised you here than on your balance.
- We may change prices. A change never affects credits you have already bought.
5. Refunds and your right to cancel
If you are a consumer in the UK or EU you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content. Credits are supplied immediately so that you can use them at once; by buying a pack you ask us to begin supply immediately and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once you start spending them.
In practice we are more generous than that requires: if you have not spent any of a pack, email us within 14 days and we will refund it in full. If you have spent part of it, we will refund the unused portion at our discretion. A refund removes the corresponding credits from your balance, which can leave it negative if they have since been spent — in that case the balance must be topped up before the service can be used again.
None of this affects your statutory rights if something we sold you was faulty.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use the service to:
- break the law, or infringe somebody else’s rights;
- process content you have no right to process — you are responsible for having the rights to anything you send to a tool;
- attack, overload or probe the service or anything it connects to, including using the URL-fetching tools to reach systems you do not control;
- work around metering, rate limits or the credit system, or share one account’s credentials across separate organisations;
- resell the service as if it were your own without telling us — build on it freely, but do not pass it off.
We may suspend an account that is causing harm, and will explain why when we can safely do so. For a serious breach we may terminate without refund; otherwise we refund unused credits.
7. Your content and ours
Anything you send to a tool stays yours. We claim no licence over it beyond what is needed to run the tool you asked for, and it is deleted when the request ends — see Privacy. The output of a tool is yours to use as you like. The site, the tools and their documentation remain ours.
8. Availability
We do not offer an uptime guarantee. This is a small service and it is honest about that: metering is deliberately strict, so if our database is unavailable the API is unavailable rather than serving calls it cannot account for. We aim to be dependable and we will not pretend to a service level we have not committed to.
9. Liability
The tools are provided as they are. We do not warrant that a tool’s output is fit for a particular purpose — check anything that matters before relying on it, particularly conversions, extractions and anything a downstream system will act on automatically.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost or corrupted data. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months, or £5. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
10. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from the bottom of your account page. Deletion removes your account, your keys, your history and any remaining balance, and cannot be undone. If you would rather be refunded for unused credits, ask before deleting — afterwards there is no record to refund against.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially reduces your rights we will give notice by email to the address on your account before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or EU, you keep the protection of your local mandatory consumer law.
